When Cali Lewis went to Macworld 2008, it was her first time there and she wanted to document it with a video diary shot with her Sanyo Xacti HD1A camera. Her intention at the time was to auction the camera and the unreleased video to help pay for the trip to Macworld. However, the expenses of the trip were paid off without this, so the camera and footage auction was repurposed as a fundraiser for Cali and Neal’s Big Trip. I was the high bidder on that auction, and I knew I wanted to share the video with anyone else who was interested.

The Xacti saves each scene as a separate file, so I edited the files together and added timestamp title cards, based on the times on each file, to give some sense of when each recording was made and help contribute to the “diary” feel. I trimmed nothing out; this means that if Cali accidentally fired off the camera and got the top of her head, then that’s here. The sound in several of the scenes is very rough, with a lot of crowd noise in the background, but you can almost always hear what she’s saying.

I’m hosting this video on Vimeo.com, with links on this page, in the same style that Cali and Neal are doing with various Big Trip videos. The footage of Cali with Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht of Diggnation (from the Superbowl commercial shoot) will be up in a few days. I pretty well maxed out my Vimeo upload quota with this one, so I’ve got to wait until they’ll allow me some more megabytes.

I feel very lucky to be able to share this video with friends of GeekBrief.TV around the world. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did.
