GeekBrief.TV Hits #500
By Dave Peterson | January 23, 2009

Today marks the release of GeekBrief.TV’s 500th episode. If you’ve never seen Geek Brief, you should stop reading this right now and go watch it. It’s one of the longest running and most influential video podcasts on the web. Although, nominally a show about gadgets and new technology (and it’s an excellent source of such information), I think many who watch would agree that its biggest contribution to this new media world is as an inspiration for many other people who want to do something similar but might never have tried without the example set by producers Cali Lewis and Neal Campbell.
From its first show, released December 23, 2005, to today, it has inspired an amazing number of people to enter new media, with either video or audio podcasts or blogs like this one. GadgetyTech.com would not exist today without the inspiration of Geek Brief. I think of the show as a small pebble dropped in a pond, and sending out waves far bigger than anyone could have ever expected. We still don’t know the full extent of its influence, but I suspect students studying media decades from now will be reading about (and watching) things Cali and Neal are doing today.
Finally, anything having to do with Geek Brief is personally significant to me because of what these two people have come to mean to me. I happened upon the podcast in iTunes back in the spring of 2007, well into its success. I started to watch and was instantly hooked. Since then, Cali and Neal have become two of my closest friends. It’s been my privilege to help them where I can and today I’m proud to maintain and update the show’s archives where anyone can see the entire history of the podcast from the first episode to the one they produced today. For the full story of how Geek Brief came to be and what the future might hold, check out episodes 482, 483, and 484.
Congratulations Cali and Neal. You accomplished your dreams and in doing so have started so many other people on the same path. And there’s so much more ahead.

I agree with you 1,000,000,000%
Cali and Neal are like a pebble dropped in a small pond that somehow made things shake on all corners of the globe (literally, everywhere)!
In my opinion, they are two people that will go down in the history books for changing the way that we communicate. They’re awesome!
