Wireless VGA Kit Offers Interesting Possibilities

    By Dave Peterson | January 12, 2009

One of the things I enjoy about new computer add-ons are the potential unintended uses they may offer.  One that crossed my vision today and immediately got me started thinking about the possibilities is the Wireless USB to VGA Kit from IOGEAR.  The basic premise is that, using Wireless USB technology, this will send your VGA video signal from your computer to an external display at up to 1600 x 1200 resolution.  The range is listed as 30 feet and the system provides 7 channels for selection between different computers.

Obviously, the planned uses for this are for things like presentations and impromptu video viewing from a laptop to a larger screen.  It’s also promoted as a great way to add a second monitor to your setup without adding a VGA cable.  But my mind turns to an old wish of mine, to be able to have input and display devices well removed from the CPU.  Maybe I’m sitting on my sofa, but want to run software  on the quad-core machine across the room.  My thought is that using a small-to-medium display, this wireless kit, and a Bluetooth keyboard (with on-board pointing device), I can achieve my remote processing dreams. If it works out, I’ll report back here in a full review.
