Remote Light Control That’s Fast and Simple
By Dave Peterson | August 29, 2008

It may not be the flashiest of gadgets, nor the highest of tech, but if you’ve got a wall-plugged light in a hard-to-access corner, an RF frequency wireless light switch can be a small investment from which you’ll get daily benefits. I’ve got a couple of Heath/Zenith wireless switches and corresponding receiver plugs, to make operation of lights with awkwardly located switches a breeze.
The remote can address two different switching receiver plugs, with four channels on each switch. Setup couldn’t be simpler: Select the channel on which you want a switch to operate, and make sure the plug is set to the same channel. Plug the receiver into your wall outlet, and the item to be controlled into the receiver. Turn on the switch on the light (or other device), and you’re ready to go. Operate the On, Off, or Dim buttons at will! Want to be able to control the same lamp from two different locations in the room? Two remotes set to the same channel and you’re in business.
I also use one of these at Christmas to remotely switch the tree lights on and off. If you think about all the lights around your living space, you may find some creative applications of your own.
